Tonka: Highway Trucks
By Justine Korman
Review by: Yvonne Gaudet
This story takes us aboard a transport truck driven by a lady named Martha, and today is her first day on the job! Of course Martha has undergone many hours of Truck Driving school before being allowed to drive. The book explains about the different parts of the truck, like the ring shaped collar called the fifth wheel, which joins the tractor to the trailer. We then travel with Martha to her destination and along the way Martha sees all kinds of trucks. Martha even stops along the way at a truck stop where she and her truck refuel. At the end of her day, Martha goes to sleep in the sleeper of her truck. Tomorrow will be full of more adventures. Along the daily route Martha travels she sees many different types of trucks, tankers, flatbeds, and even log trucks. The book explains a little bit about each of these trucks, What they are used for and what they are called. Very informative for every little guy. I would say this book is good for ages 2-8 and all other truck drivers, whether real or pretend!
